Re: Making Existing Models Transparent and Export it - How
There are 2 parts to this. The first part is changing the render group into one that supports transparency, the other part is editing the texture(s).
Part I: render groups
Go here: http://www.sticklove.com/viewtopic.php? ... 819#p47819
Part II: editing the diffuse texture
Use either Photoshop or Gimp or Paint.NET or anything else that you work with. I only have paint.NET and Photoshop. In paint.NET, you can simply use the eraser and just remove any part you don't want. In Photohop (and Gimp, probably) you have to edit the alpha channel of the texture. If there isn't an alpha channel, create one. Make sure it's all white, then make the parts that should be invisible black with the paint brush. You can also go for semi-transparency with grey (the darker the colour, the more see-through the mesh will be). Keep in mind that .jpg/.jpeg does NOT support transparency!

Re: Making Existing Models Transparent and Export it - How
OMG dave,
I have read your tutorial about "How to Export Transparent with Blender 2.49b" here
LOL
BTW:
04. Look to the right at the Panel Mirror Trans, then Click on Ray Transp and Ray Mirror to make it Transparent.
05. Look just below for RayMir, then Click on it and type in (0.90) to give the Sphere a glass look.
06. Look to the right for IOR (Index Of Refraction) and Click on it, then type in (1.52) so the Light can bounce Off the Model.
-- This are settings to render a model inside Blender ... XPS ignore this settings ... like Blender ignore all settings which you make inside XPS ... like "Shadows on/off"
22. Open Photoshop and Load any Image, then Click on Layer at the top and Click on Duplicate Layer. Now you can Reduce the Opacity to 50% or 75% then Save it Over the Diffuse Image as png.
If you want to use a texture with alpha channel then you dont need this steps
03. Press F5 (For the Model/Object you Imported: Look at the Links and Pipeline Panel, then Click on the little x button to Remove the Texture) Click on Add New, then you will notice in the Material Panel are Columns below. Put in these Settings:
COL - R: Color 1.000
SPE - G: Specular 1.000
MIR - B: Mirror 1.000
The 4TH Column is A: Alpha, thatÔÇÖs the one you Lower to make the Model/Object/Sphere Transparent or just Click on it and type in (0.300)
07. Press V for Vertex Paint and Press F9 for Editing, then you will notice in the Paint Panel are Columns below. Put in these Settings:
R: 1.000
G: 1.000
B: 1.000
Hit SevCol when your done and Press V again to go into Object Mode, then Press Tab to go into Edit Mode.
Use either "Vertex colors with alpha .... or ... use a texture with alpha channel
